It’s been a tough few months for Johnny Smacks and his wife Annie as they watched their newborn son, JJ, battle with gastroschisis, a rare disorder, which means a baby’s abdomen doesn’t develop properly, and the intestines are on the outside.

Born in December, Johnny has been very open about what their son has had to experience, stating how ‘He needed a couple of operations straight away, and he’ll be in hospital for a while yet, but he’s already shown unbelievable fight.’

Johnny, who is one half of The 2 Johnnies comedy duo, has been keeping us updated over the last few weeks about JJ’s progress, with daddy Johnny receiving some good news.

On their podcast, Johnny revealed that JJ was making good progress and that this week the couple had been given some good news.

‘He had his fifth and final operation last week,’ which proved a success and highlighted how he had his first bowel movement, a significant moment for those diagnosed with the condition.

When he was told the new Johnny said, ‘I felt like doing a Robbie Keane (celebration) down the corridor.’

For little JJ, dad said It is great news, he is on the road to recovery. Next step will be home, which will probably be another few weeks…He’s going in the right direction.’

Throughout the update, Johnny expressed his sheer gratitude for those in Crumlin Hospital who were helping his little boy on the road to recovery.
