A private screening of the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic reportedly turned tense after a disagreement between siblings Janet and Jermaine Jackson.

According to reports, the screening took place in Los Angeles and was attended by more than 60 members of the famous Jackson family. The gathering was meant to be a celebratory moment ahead of the film’s global release on April 24.

The biopic centres on the life and career of the late pop icon Michael Jackson and stars Jermaine’s son, Jaafar Jackson, who takes on the role of his legendary uncle.

According to a source, early in the screening, the mood in the room was reportedly positive, with relatives reacting excitedly to scenes depicting Michael’s journey from his early days in Gary, Indiana, to becoming one of the most recognisable entertainers in the world.

However, the atmosphere is said to have shifted once the film ended and the lights came back on.

According to insiders cited in international reports, Janet began sharing her thoughts about the movie and was highly critical of several parts of the film, including the performances and the way certain scenes were presented.

Sources claim she had concerns about aspects such as the acting, make-up and the way characters were portrayed on screen.

The criticism reportedly caught some family members off guard, particularly those who had expected the family to unite in support of the film.

Jermaine, who has been closely involved with the film and whose son plays the lead role, is said to have not taken well to Janet’s remarks.

Reports suggest the exchange between the siblings became heated, with Jermaine defending both the film and his son’s performance. It is said that he accused Janet of being overly critical and urged her to support the film instead.

The clash has drawn attention to ongoing tensions within the Jackson family regarding how the legacy of the late King of Pop should be managed and presented.

The film has already generated significant global interest, largely due to the casting of Jaafar Jackson, who many say closely resembles his uncle in both appearance and stage presence.

Several actors also feature in the production, including Nia Long, Laura Harrier, Miles Teller and Colman Domingo.

The movie is directed by Antoine Fuqua and follows Michael’s rise to global superstardom, highlighting his music, performances and cultural influence. A new teaser has been released, and early access tickets for the film have been available since Wednesday, March 11.
