James Van Der Beek’s widow Kimberly has broken her silence 10 days after her husband’s death to pay tribute to another fallen actor.

Kimberly, who has been privately mourning her husband, who died on February 11 after a battle with colorectal cancer, returned to Instagram overnight to pay tribute to Eric Dane.

“We love you @rebeccahartdane,” she wrote, referencing Dane’s widow.

“We miss our guys laughing at Christmas parties together.”

She shared a photo of the two couples on the red carpet with Dane’s two daughters, Billie and Georgia.

The photo was taken at the Chrysalis Butterfly Ball in 2017.

Rebecca Gayheart has since shared the post on her own Instagram Story, where she has been sharing tributes to her late husband, as well as throwback photos and videos of their life together.

“Somewhere in the beginning,” was the caption of one photo of the pair, who were seen lying together on a lounge.

Other photos showed them with their two children at various stages of their lives, while more recent photos of Dane showed him in the wheelchair he was forced to rely on in his final months.

It comes as Dane’s girlfriend Janell Shirtcliff also shared photos of Dane.

The Danes and Van Der Beeks were thought to be friends during their time in Los Angeles, before the Van Der Beek’s left LA for Austin, Texas, in 2020.

They were pictured together a number of times on the red carpet as far back as 2007.

Both Dane and Van Der Beek rose to fame as television actors and heartthrobs.

Van Der Beek shot to fame as Dawson Leery in teen drama Dawson’s Creek, which first aired in 1998.

Meanwhile, Dane moved to LA in the early 90s and made his start in TV guest roles before appearing in two seasons of the hit TV show Charmed between 2003-04.

His big break came when he was cast as Dr Mark Sloan in Grey’s Anatomy during its second season in 2006.

He became known as Dr McSteamy during his 139-episode run on the show.

Dane married actress Rebecca Gayheart in 2004.

The couple had two daughters, Billie and Georgia, before separating in 2018.

But their planned divorce was put on hold after he was diagnosed with the deadly neurodegenerative disorder, which affects the motor nerves that allow a person to move, swallow, talk and eventually breathe.

Dane disclosed his diagnosis to People in April 2025, and spent the last months of his life advocating for more research into the disease, before his death was announced on Friday (AEDT).

“With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS,” a statement from Dane’s family that was shared with People. said.

“He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the centre of his world.

“Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight.

“He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered always. Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he’s received.

“The family has asked for privacy as they navigate this impossible time.”

Dane’s friends have since launched a GoFundMe to raise money for his two daughters, who are aged 15 and 13.

Yesterday, streaming service Netflix released a five-minute long message the star recorded before his death, which offered advice to his two daughters.

It ended with the words, “Billie and Georgia, you are my heart. You are my everything. Good night. I love you. Those are my last words.”
