Those who have always dreamed of living in the iconic mansion shown on the hit 1990s show, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, might be able to now that it’s on the market
The home used for the hit 1990s show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air has hit the market for the first time in 48 years.
An industry insider revealed to People that the famous Los Angeles mansion where the sitcom filmed establishing shots of the Banks family’s home exterior hasn’t been on the market since 1978. The residence, which spans over 6,000 square feet and has five bedrooms and five bathrooms, was last sold almost five decades ago for $732,000. The price the California home will go for hasn’t been disclosed yet.
While the show was set in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Bel-Air, the home featured in the series was in the neighboring city of Brentwood.

All of the scenes that took place inside the mansion were shot on a soundstage. Excitement broke out across social media in 2020 after the mansion became available to rent on Airbnb in honor of the show’s 20th anniversary.
The show’s star, Will Smith, 57, was the virtual host for the staycation booking, which was opened to Los Angeles County residents in October 2020.
“I’m handing you the keys so you’ll have my wing of the mansion all to yourself — but my sneaker collection is off limits, aight?” The Oscar winner said in the listing.
Fans could try on a pair of Jordans and play basketball in the bedroom, relax by the pool, and play “throwback classics all night on turntables.”
For the 2020 tour of the mansion, Will reconnected with his castmates Karyn Parsons (Hilary Banks), Tatyana M. Ali (Ashley Banks), Daphne Maxwell Reid (Vivian Banks), and Joseph Marcell (Geoffrey Banks).
“To walk through the door and walk in, it has beautiful nostalgic value,” Will said about the house. The beloved actor James Avery, who portrayed Phil Banks, the patriarch of the Banks family and Will’s fictionalized self’s affectionate Uncle Phil, unfortunately didn’t make it to see the show’s 20th anniversary.
James died at the age of 68 in December 2013. His death devastated many fans and his castmates. Shortly after James’ death, the Grammy-winning rapper took to his Facebook Page in January 2014 to share a photo of them, taken the last time they were together.
“Some of my greatest lessons in Acting, Living, and being a respectable human being came through James Avery,” Will wrote. “Every young man needs an Uncle Phil. Rest in Peace.”
Also, actor Alfonso Ribeiro, who portrayed his son Carlton Banks, wrote on then-Twitter, which is now X, at the time: “I’m deeply saddened to say that James Avery has passed away. He was a second father to me. I will miss him greatly.”
