South African singer, TV presenter and actress Nomcebo “Dot” Mthethwa has broken her silence regarding circulating claims that she is married to former Kaizer Chiefs player, Khama Billiat.
Mthethwa released a statement on Monday, February 15, and clarified the marriage claims that have been reported in the past.
“For too long, I have remained quiet, choosing to focus on my craft and believing that these baseless allegations would eventually fade away.
“However, my silence has been mistaken for weakness. These persistent lies have now crossed a line, severely impacting my professional career, damaging my brand image and causing unnecessary distress to my family and personal life,” she wrote.
The singer further added that she is specifically addressing a publication that wrote an article about her, alleging that she tied the knot to the Zimbabwean footballer.
In 2021, multiple online reports claimed that Billiat had tied the knot to Mthethwa and had taken her as his second wife.
During that time, it was also reported that Mthethwa’s mother confirmed to “City Press” that the singer is engaged to Billiat.
However, Billiat denied the marriage claims and maintained that he is still happily married to the mother of his daughter, Esnath Munyedawo.
Mthethwa added in the statement that she is not married and has never even gotten married before.
“Let me be as direct as possible: This is a complete lie. I am not married and have never been married to anyone,” she said.
Mthethwa said that she will no longer allow these baseless accusations to continue because she worked hard to build her reputation and career.
“I have spent years building my reputation as a global pop artist, and I will no longer allow reckless ‘journalism’ to jeopardise my hard work for the sake of clicks,” she said.
The actress further added that she will be suing anyone or any publication that continues to write about the marriage claims.
“To the bloggers and individuals responsible for these stories: consider this a final and powerful warning. My legal team is coming for,” she added.
