Trending Now: This entertainment story covers the latest buzz, reactions, and updates surrounding Trending Now: How Jake Cannavale Really Feels About Bobby Cannavale’s Bearded Dragon – Fans React..
Originally appeared on E! Online
Jake Cannavale is letting the cat—or should we say lizard—out of the bag.
Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale’s new bearded dragon has been the talk of the town since he skipped the Golden Globes to pick it up. Now, his son Jake—whom Bobby shares with ex-wife Jenny Lumet—is sharing how the reptile is settling into his new, charmed life.
“Oh dude, me and Benny are tight,” Jake, 30, told E! News at the premiere of his new series Scarpetta on March 3. “Benny Blue the Bearded Dragon. I love that guy.”
The Mandalorian alum also reflected on seeing his dad embrace Benny with his and Rose’s sons, Rocco, 10, and Rafael, 8.
“It’s funny because you know my dad hated pets growing up,” he explained. “And now he’s being a dad again, and everything sort of has changed and he loves animals now. It’s hilarious.”
And now, Jake’s babysitting duties don’t just involve looking after his younger brothers: He’s also getting used to feeding Benny Blur his favorite snack—crickets.
More from E! Online
“You have to dip the crickets in calcium powder and cover them in vitamins so that the bearded dragon will get its vitamins from the crickets,” he explained, having learned the info while watching Benny. “My dad took the boys to Disney, so I went over and stayed at the house for a few days and watched the dragon.”

But despite having to handle dead insects, Jake admitted the experience was “dope,” going so far as to say hanging with the reptile was a “very cathartic experience.”
“Because he doesn’t really know what’s going on,” he explained. “And sometimes I think, ‘Wow that must be so nice, you’re just a lizard, in the desert. You don’t even know you’re in a cage right now.’”
As for what else Jake has picked up from his dad over the years, it’s gone far beyond reptile maintenance.
In fact, the Third Watch star has long taught his son to, “Keep your world small. Trust your instincts. Know your lines. Find the humor.”

“I wish there was like some big profound message but there really isn’t,” Jake continued. “It’s the simple classic s–t any actor will tell you. You just really gotta do it. Because the simple stuff is really the possible stuff to master.”
And Jake got to see his father’s mastery in action on the set of Scarpetta—also starring Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis—where Jake played the younger version of his dad’s character.
On how he and Bobby collaborated on bringing their shared character to life, Jake explained, “I found that when we came together and discovered the meat of this part, and really excavated this character, we sort of naturally drew our own conclusions that hopefully worked. Fingers crossed.”
Scarpetta premieres on Prime Video March 11. For more must-see television to tune into this year, read on.
