The Netflix series shows a vulnerable side of Ramsay, but Sarah Symonds, who says she had a seven-year affair with him starting in 2001, insists it is not truthful.
Gordon Ramsay’s alleged ex-mistress has spoken out after the celebrity chef’s new Netflix series, Being Gordon Ramsay, triggered the PTSD she claims she suffered following his denial of their seven-year affair. Sarah Symonds, 56, has labelled the chef and the six-part documentary as “fake”, claiming his marriage to wife Tana is a “sham”.
The series, which launched on 18 February, presents a more vulnerable side of the famously fiery Ramsay, showing him discussing his working-class upbringing and admitting to being absent during his children’s early years, Mirror reports. But for Symonds, the portrayal does not ring true. The Welsh native, once dubbed a “professional mistress” for affairs with other married men, including politician Jeffrey Archer, says she was involved with Ramsay for seven years after meeting him in 2001.
Symonds, who published Having an Affair? in 2007, told the Daily Mail: “The title of the docu-series Being Gordon Ramsay is totally fake – just like him. It’s misleading and disingenuous. A travesty in fact, as nothing about it was ‘Being Gordon’ at all.”
She described the show as a “glossed over” version of the chef, calling him a “bully, cheat, liar and serial philanderer”. Symonds criticised the Netflix description of the series as “unflinchingly honest”, saying it makes her want to scream and added that she is “trying to heal” from the trauma of the affair.
Ramsay has denied ever having had a relationship with Symonds. She recalled that he acted as if he were single, claiming he “was always available” and “certainly wasn’t rushing home” from his late nights in London.
The Mirror has contacted Ramsay’s representatives for comment. Symonds has also remained vocal during family disputes, including the fallout between Ramsay’s daughter Holly’s husband, Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty, and his family.

Symonds struck up a friendship with Peaty’s mother, Caroline, after the swimmer reportedly cut ties with his family and uninvited them from his and Holly Ramsay’s wedding.
She claims her affair with Ramsay began in 2001, when Holly was just a year old. Symonds said she reached out to Caroline on Facebook after learning about the family feud. The pair now exchange voice notes and bond over their shared frustration with Ramsay.
“I really know what it means to go through this trauma [with the Ramsays]. By talking to Caroline, yes, I’m opening up my scars again – but I’m doing it to help others,” Symonds told the Daily Mail.
She added: “Caroline and I are close. One could say we are kindred spirits. Because if anyone knows what she is going through it is me.
“I wanted her to know I thought the way Gordon and his family were treating her was terrible.
“I just felt so sad for her and wanted to try to make her feel a bit better.”
