“Children are allowed to make mistakes, that’s how they learn. So that’s what I try to teach my kids.”

This was the message David Beckham delivered during a CNBC Squawk Box interview at the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 20.

While the former footballer was technically there to discuss his work as a UNICEF ambassador, the timing of his comments on social media and parenting felt like a direct response to the firestorm involving his eldest son.

Before sitting down for the interview, David had to navigate a crowd of journalists in the Davos halls.

Reporters were heard shouting point-blank questions like, “David, do you have a message for Brooklyn this morning?” and “David, are you disappointed family business is being aired in public?”

Despite the pressure, David kept his composure, only smiling and nodding as he walked past.

He avoided the chaos entirely, choosing instead the controlled environment of a financial news set to share his thoughts on the “dangers” of digital platforms.

David explained that while social media is a powerful tool for good, it can also be “dangerous” for young people.

“You have to sometimes let them make those mistakes,” he noted, a comment many are seeing as a subtle dismissal of the serious allegations Brooklyn posted just 24 hours earlier.

The drama began on January 19, when Brooklyn Beckham, 26, posted a massive six-slide statement to his Instagram Stories.

Breaking years of silence, Brooklyn confirmed he is now estranged from his parents and claimed he has “no intention of reconciling.”

He used the post to pull back the curtain on what he calls the “Brand Beckham” facade.

“For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family,” Brooklyn wrote, adding that “family ‘love’ is decided by how much you post on social media, or how quickly you drop everything to show up and pose for a photo op.”

Perhaps the most startling claim was the allegation that “weeks before our big day, my parents repeatedly pressured and attempted to bribe me into signing away the rights to my name.”

Brooklyn also touched on his mental health, stating, “I grew up with overwhelming anxiety. For the first time in my life, since stepping away from my family, that anxiety has disappeared.”

He was clear about his current stance, noting that he is finally standing up for himself and that the narrative that his wife, Nicola Peltz-Beckham, controls him is “completely backwards.”

The tension between the two camps has been simmering since Brooklyn’s 2022 wedding.

In his post, he finally confirmed the long-rumoured “dress drama,” claiming Victoria backed out of making Nicola’s wedding gown at the “eleventh hour.”

He also described a “humiliating” moment where Victoria allegedly “hijacked” his first dance, writing that “she danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone” while Nicola was left on the sidelines.

By framing the situation as a “mistake” from a “child,” David appears to be sticking to the family’s long-standing PR strategy of staying above the controversy.

But with Brooklyn now communicating only through lawyers, the gap between the two sides seems wider than ever.

The big question remains: David has had his say in Davos, but how, and when, will Victoria respond?
