Nicholas Brendon’s final social media post has resurfaced following his death.

Yesterday (20 March) the actor’s family confirmed that he’d passed away from ‘natural causes’ at the age of 54 in a statement given to The Hollywood Reporter.

“We are heartbroken to share the passing of our brother and son, Nicholas Brendon. He passed in his sleep of natural causes,” the statement read.

“Most people know Nicky for his work as an actor and for the characters he brought to life over the years. In recent years Nicky has found his passion in painting and art.

“Nicky loved to share his enthusiastic talent with his family, friends and fans. He was passionate, sensitive, and endlessly driven to create. Those who truly knew him understood that his art was one of the purest reflections of who he was.”

The statement went on to acknowledge that Brendon, who was best known for playing Xander Harris on all sevens seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, had struggled with depression and alcoholism as well as various legal issues in recent years, adding: “He was on medications and treatment to manage his diagnosis and he was optimistic about the future at the time of his passing.

“Our family asks for privacy during this time as we grieve his loss and celebrate the life of a man who lived with intensity, imagination, and heart. Thank you to everyone who has shown love and support.”

The news of Brendon’s death led numerous fans of the actor to revisit his final post on social media, which was a 45-minute ‘fireside chit chat’ posted to Facebook on 14 March.

In the clip the actor is seated outside his home and rocking back and forth on a chair while he shared numerous anecdotes from his life and acting career as well as answering questions from fans.

Brendon’s voice is noticeably different in the video, which he puts down to having a fire on inside the house all day.

“I’ve had a fire all day, because it’s been cold… but it’s amazing what it’ll do to you, when you breathe smoke,” he said to the camera, before coughing numerous times.

“F**k this f***ing smoke. I sound like Bane.”

The video also saw Brendon address the news that costar Sarah Michelle Gellar and Chloe Zhao’s reboot of Buffy had been cancelled after filming the pilot.

Brendon gave a lengthy answer in response to the question, discussing the absence of several major cast members and series creator Joss Whedon, before wishing actor newcomer Ryan Kiera Armstrong all the best in her career.

“To Ryan Kiera Armstrong, you seem awesome,” he said, saying the cancellation of the series – which had seen the 16-year-old cast as the new main slayer – was ‘show business’ and nothing personal.

“Don’t allow what happened to hold you back at all.”
