Bruce Willis was spotted smiling in Studio City on January 16, weeks after wife Emma Heming Willis wrote an emotional essay about grieving his dementia diagnosis

Bruce Willis was recently seen taking a ride through Studio City, Los Angeles, just weeks after his wife, Emma Heming Willis, opened up about a devastating reality surrounding the Hollywood icon. The 70-year-old former actor was caught on camera on January 16 sitting in the passenger seat of a black SUV, flashing a smile while sporting a black cap, white tee, and blue jacket.

These days, Bruce seldom makes public appearances as he fights his ongoing battle with frontotemporal dementia. He disclosed his condition in early 2023, following his retirement from the film industry a year earlier due to aphasia, a disorder that impacts his thinking and communication skills.

Prior to his January 16 outing, Bruce’s last public sighting was in November 2025, when he was captured taking a leisurely walk along a Los Angeles beach while holding his caregiver’s hand. Onlookers reported he seemed calm and upbeat, occasionally breaking into a smile, though he looked noticeably thinner and relied on handrails for stability.

This recent sighting follows his wife Emma’s emotional revelation about the “grief” she experiences regarding Bruce’s condition, reports the Express US.

The 47 year old, who is mother to daughters Mabel Ray, 13, and Evelyn, 11, with the action film legend, penned an intimate essay on her website discussing her husband’s struggle with dementia.

In the piece, titled The Holidays Look Different Now, Emma shared her thoughts on being Bruce’s caretaker.

“The holidays have a way of holding up a mirror, reflecting who we’ve been, who we are, and what we imagined they would be,” she expressed.

She went on to say, “Traditions that once felt somewhat effortless require planning- lots of planning. Moments that once brought uncomplicated joy may arrive tangled in a web of grief.”

Thinking about how her household has adjusted and discovered pockets of solace amid the difficulties, Emma elaborated, “There can still be warmth.

“There can still be joy. I’ve learned that the holidays don’t disappear when dementia enters your life. They change.”

Emma then opened up about experiencing loss while her husband remains living, sharing with her audience, “Grief doesn’t only belong to death.

“It belongs to change, and the ambiguous loss caregivers know so well. It belongs to the realization that things won’t unfold the way they once did.

“It belongs to the absence of routines, conversations, or roles that were once so familiar you never imagined them ending.”

Emma has also faced backlash lately after disclosing that Bruce no longer resides with her. Describing it as an “impossible decision,” Emma shared that she relocated him in August to a place near the family’s primary residence, where he receives round-the-clock care from professional caregivers.

“These are hard decisions. These are impossible, I’m getting choked up thinking about it. They’re impossible decisions. This is not how I envisioned our life,” she admitted.

“So I had to make the best and safest decision for our family, and I knew by being honest and open about it that it would be met with a lot of judgment.”

Bruce now gets 24/7 care at the residence, which was purpose-built with safety and accessibility in mind.

Reports indicate that his wife and kids stop by every day to spend time with him and share meals together.
