Pop star Britney Spears has reportedly sold her music catalogue to “Primary Wave”, an independent music publishing company for high-profile artists including Bob Marley,  Stevie Nicks and Whitney Houston.

“TMZ” reported that they received legal documents indicating that Spears sold her music catalogue, but the exact price was not disclosed to the public. According to the information on the legal documents, the singer signed the deal on December 30, 2025.

The sale reportedly covers some of Spears’ most iconic songs,  including “Baby One More Time”, “I’m a Slave 4 U”, “I Wanna Go”, “Gimme More” and “Hold It Against Me”, to name a few.

Spears stands as one of the top-selling female artists with over 150 million records sold internationally. She dominated the pop music scene for almost twenty years. And this deal comes years after a difficult stretch in  Spears’ life.

The pop star spent 13 years under a conservatorship that was supervised by her father, Jamie Spears, and her lawyer since her public breakdown in 2008. The conservatorship restricted her from making decisions about her personal affairs, including her finances.

The singer opened up about her life under the conservatorship in her 2023 memoir, “The Woman in Me”. She explained that the conservatorship took away her sense of womanhood and denied her the chance to fully grow and become independent as an adult.

The conservatorship was eventually terminated in November 2021. The “Piece of Me” hitmaker is now among artists like Shakira, Justin Bieber, Sting, and Justin Timberlake who have struck deals to monetise their work.

Spears revealed in 2024 that she was not returning to the music industry after rumours circulated that she was working on a new album. Spears dismissed these claims in an Instagram post.

“They keep saying I’m turning to random people to do a new album … I will never return to the music industry!!!” she said in a since-deleted post. The 44-year-old star revealed that she is a ghost writer and has written more than 20 songs for other people.

“When I write, I write for fun or write for other people. For those of you who have read my book, there’s loads that you don’t know about me.”

She went on to refer to herself as a “ghostwriter” and shared that she preferred it that way.

The pop icon has not released a studio album since her ninth album, “Glory”, which was released in 2016.
