Icelandic singer Laufey walked the red carpet at the Golden Globe Awards was called the wrong name by photographers and she had to awkwardly correct them
Before the Golden Globes even started, there was drama.
While walking the award show’s red carpet, Icelandic singer Laufey was called the completely wrong name. This isn’t the first time the singer has had an issue with her name, as Reba McEntire completely butchered it during the Rockefeller Tree lighting back in December.
While on the red carpet, the 26-year-old donned an orange floor-length dress with a small train that trailed behind her. The form-fitting dress was slightly cut off on the sides, and its neckline went up to her neck as the dress sleeves ended halfway down her biceps.

Laufey’s hair was pulled back into a slick ponytail, and she donned drop pearl earrings. She kept her makeup simple with a natural look and black eyeliner.
In a video posted on Pop Crave’s X page, Laufey walks into the frame and then turns towards the cameras, smiling widely and holding her hands in front of her torso. Someone was heard yelling, “Megan over your shoulder,” while another voice kept repeating “Megan” as the singer moved her dress.
She awkwardly looked around and told the photographers, “My name isn’t Megan, so—” before she started laughing. Some laughter was heard off-camera as someone entered the screen and offered their arm to Laufey, allowing her to walk away as the clip ended.
One user on X, which was formerly known as Twitter, commented on the video, “Should photographers apologize publicly when they get a celebrity’s name wrong?” Another theorized, “They thought she was Megan from Katseye lol.”
“Classic Laufey energy,” a third wrote, “She politely corrects the photographers — ‘My name isn’t Megan’ — showing she’s confident and composed on the red carpet. Low-key mic-drop moment.”
Laufey’s name has been the center of confusion, as the Icelandic-born singer’s name is pronounced “Lay-vay.”
During an interview in 2023 on the Zach Sang Show, she said, “It’s a common Icelandic female name, actually, but you know it’s two vowels that just don’t exist in English. The English version is ‘Lay-vay.'” She added that the name is also rooted in Norse mythology, as it is the name of Loki’s mother.
The 2026 Golden Globes will be hosted by Nikki Glaser for the second year in a row. It took place at the Beverly Hills Hilton and aired live on CBS.
