Ashley Tisdale’s “toxic” mom group essay sparks backlash as Tisdale’s past comments on conservative activist and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk resurface
Ashley Tisdale’s essay about a “toxic” mom group continues to spark backlash with renewed scrutiny of Tisdale’s past remarks on conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Tisdale, 38, published an op-ed this week in The Cut titled Breaking Up With My Toxic Mom Group, in which she described feeling alienated and excluded by a circle of celebrity mothers she once considered her support system. “I felt thrown back in high school,” she wrote. “I thought I found my village, but I didn’t.”
Social media users quickly linked the essay to a group of Hollywood moms, including Hilary Duff, Mandy Moore, and Meghan Trainor. Although Tisdale never named them directly, online speculation intensified after Koma posted what many interpreted as a response.

Koma shared a satirical version of Tisdale’s Cut cover to his Instagram Story, with the headline, “When You’re The Most Self-Obsessed Tone Deaf Person On Earth, Other Moms Tend To Shift Focus To Their Actual Toddlers.”
He captioned the post, “Read my new interview with @TheCut.”
A day later, he posted again, tagging Moore in a nod to her 1999 single Candy. Moore replied, “Love you.”
Tisdale’s husband, musician Christopher French, posted a cryptic quote on Instagram that read, “Underrated life skill: Pausing to decide if it’s worth your energy.”
Amid the fallout, some users resurfaced a 2025 Instagram post in which Tisdale addressed Charlie Kirk’s death.
“Even when we disagree or find someone’s views offensive, violence is never the answer,” she wrote at the time. The post drew mixed reactions.
A representative for Tisdale told TMZ the Kirk comment had no connection to the current controversy and emphasized that Tisdale is a registered Democrat.
Sources close to the situation told Page Six there was no single reason for the group’s split. “It’s a myriad of things, not just one specific,” a person familiar with the matter said.
Other reports suggested tensions escalated after the 2018 California wildfires, when Moore’s home was damaged. Duff allegedly took in Moore and her family. Those close to the star claimed Tisdale was not emotionally present for the group.
“There were rumors the moms felt she wasn’t there for them,” Perez Hilton said during a segment on his podcast. “And others believed she was too self-focused.”
Hilton said Koma’s post appeared to reflect that view.
“He basically called her tone-deaf and a big baby,” Hilton told Fox News Digital. “That’s how he sees it. I’m sure Ashley has her own side.”
Trainor responded with a TikTok video showing her looking shocked while her song Still Don’t Care played in the background.
