“After a very long year, finally you guys can call me married.”

These are the words of Anele Mthawelanga Mgudlwa, née Anele Mdoda, on her first day back at work on 94.7’s Breakfast Club.

Anele recently opened up about her marital journey, having tied the knot with AmaXhosa Prince Bonelela “Buzza” James Mgudlwa from the AbaThembu tribe.

Fresh from being introduced to the royal family and performing traditional AmaXhosa marital rites, Anele expressed her excitement, stating, “Finally! Registered at Home Affairs. Mrs Mgudlwa, that’s me.”

During her journey, she wore an ijalimani (or amajerimani), traditional isiXhosa attire worn by married women.

Although many assumed she was married after pictures of her ukwamukelwa kwabakwenyana (accepting the groom’s men) ceremony were leaked, Anele clarified that she was officially a Mrs only after Mgudlwa took her to his family homestead.

“When I am taken to Buzza’s homestead, and I step on their ground and I am fed utsiki (sour milk made from a cow from the family’s kraal), and a piece of a leg of lamb or goat, then their ancestors recognise me as a wife of oMadiba, oDlomo, oYemyem,” she explained.

The completion of her traditional marriage ceremonies took place on December 29, 2025.

As per tradition, Anele was also given a new name, Mthawelanga, meaning “Ray of sunshine.”

“I have a new name. It is like a kind of a rebirth. I’m a new person, I’m a wife, so my name is uMthawelanga,” she shared.

When asked if she was also a princess, Anele confidently replied, “I’m a royal wife. You still have to bow.”

Anele and Buzza began their traditional wedding process in April 2025, shortly after pictures were leaked and subsequently deleted by Khaya Dlanga.

In those images, Anele and Buzza donned traditional AmaXhosa regalia, showcasing their cultural heritage.

Just a few days after their intimate wedding, Buzza took to Instagram to pen a heart-warming post dedicated to his new wife.

Ndiyabulela Thixo Onamandla Onke (Thank you to the Almighty). Ndandithandaza – wandiphendula (I prayed and he answered). Hayi nje ngemfesane, kodwa ngowona mfazi omhle unobubele, noxolo, nothando emhlabeni (He answered me with a beautiful wife who’s humble, peaceful and loving in the world). Ndithi bayethe kuwe MaMfene (I praise you MaMfene).

Nguye intliziyo yam eyayimlindile lonke elixesha sizichoymie (You are who my heart has been waiting for all this time). Nguye isithembiso sakho esiphilayo (You are my living promise). Ndithi haleluya, mayibongwe iNkosi! (I say hallelujah, praise the Lord) Uthando lwam lusuka kuwe Bawo. Ndi bulela nobawomkhulu ngolandela uKrestu,” he wrote.
