The Peaty’s may not have the influence of the Ramsays but they haven’t taken the blows thrown in the feud lying down

It was to be a fairytale wedding as Olympian Adam Peaty tied the knot with Holly Ramsay the daughter of celebrity chef Gordon. The lavish ceremony at Bath Abbey saw celebrity guest attend including David and Victoria Beckham, newsreader Dan Walker as well as Dragon’s Den star Sara Davies.

But, as has been reported over the preceeding months, all was not rosy with Adam’s side of the family and the nuptials hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons after it emerged Adam had banned his family, apart from his sister Bethany, from the ceremony. The move is said to have left his doting mum, Caroline, who ferried him to swim practice as a child, ‘broken’.

Instead of one side of the church being packed with Adam’s family, it was a Ramsay family takeover as the couple exchanged vows, reports the Mirror. And it has even been reported that Holly’s dad, Gordon, made digs about the family feud in his father of the bride speech.

According to reports, Adam told his dad Mark – via Bethany – that he could attend the service. But it is said he was told he would have to sit at the back behind the plus ones and would not be welcome at the reception. It appears that his father declined, choosing instead to stay with a heartbroken Caroline.

Despite the snub, the Peaty family haven’t taken the blows lying down. The family, from Staffordshire, appear to have made their feelings clear in several, sometimes subtle ways, over the last few days as the feud continued to simmer.

Name change dig

Adam Peaty’s ex has reportedly hit out at his decision to change his name following his marriage to. Both Adam and Holly will use a new double-barrelled surname, with the pair taking each other’s names and being called Peaty-Ramsay.

But Eiri, who is the mother to Adam’s five-year-old son George, is said to think the decision is a “bit rich”.

Speaking to The Sun, one of Eiri’s friends said: “It feels a bit rich to Eiri that Adam has been quick to change his name but didn’t allow her the same right for their son. It appears Adam is being a bit hypocritical.”

However, despite the criticism, the pal said Eiri was proud to see her son by his dad’s side on his big day. And she also praised Holly for her part in the situation.

“Holly has been such a positive influence on Adam,” they added. “They both dote on George. Eiri knows she is lucky that George has a stepmum like Holly. Although she says Adam has double standards over changing his name, she can’t fault him as a dad.”

Scathing text messages

A family source said it was ‘disgusting’ that Adam went ahead with the wedding without reaching out to his parents beforehand, according to The Sun on Sunday.

And just moments before Adam and Holly exchanged vows, he is said to have received a heart-wrenching text from a family member who criticised him for not inviting his mother to the wedding. Adam, who was snapped walking into the abbey holding the hand of his five-year-old son George was sent the text from his aunt Louise.

Louise, who was also not invited to the wedding, reportedly told Adam: “I hope you never suffer the depth of pain you have put your mother through and despite it all she loves you still. Shame on you both. Shame.

“Remember on this, your happiest day, and on each anniversary of your happiest day, that you hurt your mum so deeply her soul screams,” MailOnline reports.

Upside down flag

A Union Jack was seen flying upside down outside the family home in Staffordshire, with many interpreting it to be a dig at the newlyweds. An inverted flag is known as a symbol of distress. But it is not clear whether it was on purpose, or erected upside down by accident by the patriotic family.

Gatecrashing threats

In the weeks before the wedding, there were reports Caroline had planned on crashing her son’s big day, but decided against doing so at the last minute as it “would be too sad” and she didn’t want to “spoil his big day”.

Her change of heart came after she’d previously insisted: “I will be there, and I will watch from the street.” But her husband Mark managed to persuade her not to go, warning her it would be ‘too upsetting’. The family instead remained at their family home in Uttoxeter.

Social media posts

Adam’s estranged brother James took to social media to share a poignant yet strong message the day after the wedding. After being booted off the invite list, James posted an old photo with their mum Caroline standing outside the wedding venue.

The photo – taken on a different occasion to Adam’s wedding day – shows the mother and son stood alone and dressed in what looks like it could be wedding clothing.

He also chose a telling song accompanying the image, as he opted for a remix of ‘Speak Softly, Love’, which appears several times in the iconic Mafia film, The Godfather.

The first film was released in 1972 and tells the story of the son of a Mafia boss Michael Corleone [Al Pacino] meeting ‘outsider’ Kay Adams [Diane Keaton] – and it could be seen to be as if James is comparing The Corleones to the Ramsays, who are the more powerful family – while his brother Adam is ‘the outsider’.

However after just 15 minutes, James deleted the photo on his Instagram Story.

In another social media post, this time by Caroline, another apparent dig was made at her son. As the wedding was just days after Christmas (December 27), the heartbroken mum made it clear how hurt she was, especially over the festive period.

She shared a quote that read: “I don’t remember every gift I opened when I was 5, 6, or even 10. I remember the smell of the kitchen, the glow of the lights, the way love felt louder in December. It wasn’t the presents, it was the presence of my parents who did everything they could to make the magic happen.”

Her message emerges following claims that Adam has neglected to purchase Christmas gifts for most of his relatives. But it seems Caroline hasn’t abandoned hope of mending their relationship, even purchasing a wedding gift for the couple.

Speaking to the Mail Online, the former nursery manager Caroline disclosed: “It’s a decent present.”
