“I think we live in a strangely algorithmic and divided world right now,” the actor recently said at the Berlin Film Festival. “And so as artists, I’m always interested in doing things that are apolitical, because we’re all as humans wanting to connect in some way. That’s why we experience things together.”

“Obviously, I’m against it,” Rupert said at this year’s Berlin Film Festival after being asked if he’d speak out against the rise of far-right politics in the UK. “But I choose my moments when to speak. But I think yeah, it’s obviously hugely relevant now. You’ll hear from me.”

During the US government shutdown that took place last fall, the “Weekend Update” co-host spoke out against the freeze of SNAP benefits, which he referred to as “fucked up.” “i keep seeing a lotta racist videos celebrating (mostly black) families not being able to buy groceries..,” he wrote in an IG post that was recently deleted. “theres this weird idea that since some people have taken advantage of welfare benefits in the hood, NOBODY should receive help, at all..?”

“I don’t think I am in the position to really talk about the political situation in the US, and also I cannot presume to say I understand how it is,” the actor said at the 2026 Berlin Film Festival. “So, best not to talk about something I don’t know about.”

“I hope that people realize how important what’s going on is right now,” the actor said after taking home a Golden Globe earlier this year. “This is kind of a moment of reckoning, I think, in this country. I just hope that people do the right thing. Almost everybody knows in their hearts what is the right thing.”

6. WILL: Mark Ruffalo

“We have a vice president who’s lying about what’s happening, we’re in the middle of a war with Venezuela, that we illegally invaded,” Ruffalo said on the red carpet during the 2026 Golden Globes. “[Trump is] telling the world that international law doesn’t matter to him. The only thing that matters to him is his own morality, but the guy is a convicted felon…he’s the worst human being. If we’re relying on this guy’s morality for the most powerful country in the world, then we’re all in a lot of trouble.”

“Politically, for me to speak on it, there are experts who know much more than I do,” Kevin said during an interview with Variety. “I’m just focusing on what I can do, delivering a fun, heartfelt break from the craziness of the world. Everybody carries themselves around all day long with a lot of stress. It’s necessary in some ways, but you also need a break. You’ve got to look around and find the good in things. Otherwise, you’re just not going to function. I want to make people have fun, have hope and get a nice escape in their day.”

“It’s the most important to stick up for people and for peace,” the actor and comedian said on the red carpet at the 2025 Emmys, while holding a bag that said “CEASE FIRE” on it in support of the Palestinian people. “We have to use our platforms… What’s the point of being at these big events if you’re not going to use your privilege?”

“The last place you probably want to look for advice in your spiritual counsel is a bunch of jet-lagged, drunk artists talking about their films,” Ethan joked to Variety during the Berlin Film Festival regarding whether artists should speak out about politics. Later in the interview, he also made sure to specify, “Anything that fights fascism, I’m all for it.”

After the murder of far-right influencer Charlie Kirk, the actor took to IG to share some of Charlie’s offensive quotes about Black women, immigrants, and transgender people, among other topics, while also writing: “He was hateful.” “We are forgetting the nuance of humanity,” she later wrote in a longer statement. “I can get angry about misogyny and racist rhetoric and ALSO very much agree that Charlie Kirk’s murder was absolutely disturbing and deplorable in every way imaginable. No one should have to experience this level of violence. This country is grieving too many senseless and violent deaths and shootings. Can we agree on that at least?”

“I hate politics,” the producer and music mogul said in a speech last year. “Like, despise them. It’s a magic trick. It’s not real. I don’t believe in either side. Because I think when you pick a side, you are inadvertently supporting division.”

“During the first Trump administration, I felt like I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off,” Jennifer told the New York Times. “But as we’ve learned, election after election, celebrities do not make a difference whatsoever on who people vote for. So then what am I doing? I’m just sharing my opinion on something that’s going to add fuel to a fire that’s ripping the country apart. We are so divided…I think I’m in a complicated recalibration because I’m also an artist. I don’t want to start turning people off to films and to art that could change consciousness or change the world because they don’t like my political opinions…If I can’t say something that’s going to speak to some kind of peace or lowering the temperature or some sort of solution, I don’t want to be a part of the problem. I don’t want to make the problem worse.”

“I don’t feel like I need to say anything but that no one is illegal on stolen land,” the musician said regarding the recent nationwide ICE crackdowns while accepting Song of the Year at the 2026 Grammys. “It’s just really hard to know what to say and do right now….I feel really hopeful in this room, and I feel like we just need to keep fighting and speaking up and protesting. Our voices really do matter and the people matter.”

“You know, I’m a dumb redneck. I haven’t watched enough,” the country artist said following the 2026 Grammys. “I hate to be the artist aesthetic, aloof, but I’ve become so disconnected from what’s happening…I didn’t even know politics were fucking real until I was in my mid-20s in jail… When you grow up in a drug addict household, do you think we have common calls about what’s happening in world politics? We’re just trying to find a way to survive, man, you know?”
