LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) – Webb County is taking a new approach to combating auto theft and drug trafficking, pairing the county attorney’s office directly with law enforcement.
The county attorney’s office will now provide legal support to the Laredo Police Department Auto Theft Task Force. Officials said the partnership is expected to reduce organized crime, including auto theft and drug trafficking.
In a separate vote, commissioners approved keeping grant-funded officers on the payroll under the Federal High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force agreement.
The task force operates across the South Texas border region, gathering intelligence and targeting drug networks.
