The Uttarakhand Police Headquarters reported on Tuesday that a high-level meeting was held at the auditorium of Sardar Patel Bhawan to review crime and law and order issues under the chairmanship of Director General of Police (DGP) Deepam Seth. Attendees included senior officers from the Police Headquarters, heads in charge of Garhwal and Kumaon, district leaders, and senior officers of the Special Task Force (STF).
According to the Uttarakhand Police Headquarters, the meeting involved a comprehensive review of the current crime situation, law and order status, progress of investigations, and the disposal of public grievances, after which detailed instructions were issued.
Regarding the recent incident in Rishikesh, Dehradun district, where a woman was shot dead, the DGP announced the immediate suspension of AIIMS Chowki In-charge SI Sahil Vashisht for negligence. Likewise, SI Pradyumn Negi, Khudbuda Chowki In-charge, was suspended for prima facie negligence in the murder case of a young woman under Kotwali Nagar, Dehradun.
Given the sensitivity of crimes against women, investigations in both cases have been assigned to SP Crime Vishakha Ashok Bhadane. The Police Headquarters has directed the submission of a detailed inquiry report regarding any laxity by other personnel within seven days.
In relation to the clash and firing between two groups during Ravidas Jayanti in the Bhagwanpur police station area, Haridwar district, SI Surat Sharma, Chudiyala Outpost In-charge, was suspended immediately for serious negligence. The investigation has been entrusted to SP Crime Haridwar Jitendra Mehra, and a detailed inquiry into the involvement of other police personnel is to be submitted within seven days.
Addressing the Sukhwant Singh suicide case in Udham Singh Nagar district, which involves allegations against police personnel in a land-related dispute, the DGP directed that all land fraud cases must be investigated at the Circle Officer (CO) level in a time-bound, fair, and effective manner. The CO will determine whether each case is civil or criminal before proceeding with legal action. The Police Headquarters will continuously monitor pending land-related cases.
In accordance with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s zero-tolerance policy on corruption, the DGP instructed the Vigilance Department to identify police personnel involved in corrupt practices and expedite action against them.
