A Dhaka court today confiscated Tk 65.5 lakh from 53 bank accounts of Faisal Karim Masud, his wife Shaheda Parvin Samia, and two individuals and institutions linked to his interests in connection with the killing of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.
Faisal is the prime accused in the case.
Md Sabbir Faiz, judge of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court, passed the order following an application filed by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), said Riaz Hossain, bench assistant of the court.
According to the CID application, a money-laundering allegation against Faisal and the individuals and institutions linked to him is currently under inquiry.
During the inquiry, analysis of bank accounts held in the names of Faisal and various individuals and institutions linked to his interests revealed a significant number of suspicious transactions.
“Primary findings show the involvement of Faisal and his associated individuals and institutions in murder, terrorism, financing terrorist activities, and organised crime. So, it is necessary to freeze the relevant accounts and confiscate the accounts’ money in favour of the state,” said the application.
Hadi, an aspiring candidate for Dhaka-8 and a prominent youth leader during the July uprising, was shot in the Paltan area on December 12. He died on December 18 while undergoing treatment in Singapore.
