MARYLAND (WBFF) — Governor Wes Moore has unveiled a record $124.1 million in funding to bolster law enforcement in Maryland as part of the proposed FY 2027 budget.

This announcement comes amid historic declines in violent crime across the state.

The funding, administered through the State Aid for Police Protection Program, underscores the Moore-Miller Administration’s dedication to enhancing public safety.

“Our administration is committed to creating a safer state for every Marylander through an all-of-the-above approach that supports law enforcement, strengthens our communities, and invests in our people,” said Gov. Moore. He emphasized that the public safety strategy is yielding tangible results, and the new investments aim to ensure every Marylander can live with safety and dignity.

According to the Governor’s office, preliminary data from 2025 shows significant reductions in crime: homicides have decreased by 25%, non-fatal shootings by 28%, and robberies by over 25% statewide. Since the Moore-Miller Administration took office, homicides have dropped 44% across Maryland, with Baltimore City seeing a 58% reduction and Prince George’s County a 39% decrease. Non-fatal shootings have also fallen by 40% statewide.

The administration’s approach focuses on three core pillars: providing resources and support for law enforcement, building stronger communities, and coordinating government efforts to enhance safety. Gov. Moore has reinstated full investment in the Maryland Coordination and Analysis Center to improve data sharing and closure rates. The administration has also prioritized funding for new equipment, overtime, and re-entry programming to reduce recidivism.

In Baltimore City, state law enforcement resources have been reinstated to support local efforts, marking a renewed public safety partnership. Maryland State Police Acting Superintendent Colonel Michael A. Jackson highlighted the importance of collaboration across jurisdictional boundaries to maintain public safety.

The Moore-Miller Administration is also addressing the root causes of crime through community-driven initiatives like the ENOUGH program, which provides grants to 28 communities and supports mental health services. Innovative projects such as the THRIVE Academy and the Safer Stronger Together project aim to offer intervention and educational opportunities to at-risk youth.

Prince George’s County Executive Aisha Braveboy praised Gov. Moore’s commitment to public safety, noting the 40% reduction in homicides in the county. She emphasized the vital synergy between state and local governments in achieving safer and more prosperous neighborhoods.
