A convicted sex offender wanted in Nevada is now back in custody after a joint investigation by Nevada State Police and the U.S. Marshals Service.

Preston Jakes was convicted of attempted sexual assault in 2013 after he had illegal contact with a minor. In that case, he was sentenced to 96 to 240 months in prison and was paroled in 2021. He stopped checking in with his parole officer a year later.

Jakes was tracked down and arrested on March 13th in Long Beach, California after a joint fugitive investigation conducted by the Nevada State Police Division of Parole and Probation, Warrants and Extraditions Unit, and the U.S. Marshals Service in Reno.

Jakes is now in custody at the Clark County Jail.
