A driver was nearly four times over the legal limit for alcohol when she was caught behind the wheel in Rainworth, magistrates have heard.

Police were called to the car park of the Sherwood Inn where they found Amanda Saunders in a white Nissan Juke with the engine running, on September 13, said Ben Payne, prosecuting.

A breath test revealed she had 124 microgrammes of alcohol when the legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

“She has one previous conviction for a similar offence from July 2022 which obviously aggravates the offence,” he added.

Morgan Hogarth, mitigating, said Saunders deserved credit for her early guilty plea and is remorseful.

He said she would find the inevitable disqualification difficult as she is the sole carer for her child.

“She is desperately unhappy with herself for getting herself into this situation,” he said. “She has remained abstinent from alcohol since the incident.”

He said family issues had affected her mental health but most of her mitigation was contained in a probation report which had been requested after her first appearance.

Saunders, aged 38, of Home Pastures, Hose, Melton Mowbray, admitted being in charge of a motor vehicle while above the legal limit, when she appeared at Mansfield Magistrates Court, on October 14.

On Tuesday, she was banned for nine months.

She also received a 12 month community order with 20 rehabilitation days, a 120-day alcohol abstinece and monitoring programme, and a 12 month mental health treatment requirement.

She was fined £80, with a £114 surcharge, and £85 costs.
