RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – From house parties to bars and casinos, Super Bowl weekend is consistently associated with an increase in drunk, impaired, and distracted driving.

Over the past 10 years in Nevada, 43.5% of fatal traffic crashes were due to an impaired driver, according to the Nevada Advisory Committee on Traffic Safety’s 2025 Annual Report.

“Unfortunately, during the Super Bowl … you do see more DUIs, you do see more accidents as a result of distracted driving,” said Alex De Castroverde, partner and co-founder of De Castroverde Law Group. “… There’s no excuse nowadays. With Uber, Lyft with so many resources out there to prevent someone from drinking and driving.”

He and his brother, Orlando, are personal injury, immigration law, and criminal defense attorneys.

“Word of advice, be proactive. If you’re going to be going to a Super Bowl party, figure out ahead of time how am I going to get there, maybe a designated driver, Uber, Lyft, all these different resources that are available that so many years ago we didn’t have,” said Orlando De Castroverde, partner and co-founder of De Castroverde Law Group. Be proactive “so you’re not behind the wheel and make a poor choice that can affect others.”

To help raise awareness, they offered practical safety tips to implement during Super Bowl weekend.

Additionally, the public is asked to call 911 or the Nevada Highway Patrol (647) to report impaired drivers.

The firm’s wins include a $6.95 million wrongful death case, a $5.5 million personal injury case, a $3 million motor vehicle collision case, a $2.8 million medical malpractice case, a $2.7 million wrongful death case, and a $2.2 million collision case.
