SIBU, March 12: Sarawak’s business events industry made a significant impact last year, securing 160 events and contributing RM483.5 million to the State’s economy.
In a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) news, Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) acting chief executive officer Jason Tan said the milestone reflects close collaboration with industry partners, who played a key role in boosting the state’s business events sector and supporting Malaysia’s broader industry growth.
“With the support of our partners, Sarawak successfully hosted 160 business events last year, generating an economic impact of RM483.5 million.
“Beyond the numbers, these events create lasting benefits, including knowledge transfer to local communities, strengthening the national industry, and fostering solutions that benefit the country,” he said at the BESarawak Iftar event, ‘One Table, A Thousand Stories’ on Tuesday (March 10).
Tan added that 2026 marks the 20th anniversary of BESarawak, and the organisation has launched several initiatives to host even more impactful events.
One such initiative is the Academic Mobility Programme, or ‘Study Groups’, which facilitates university-led educational and technical visits to strengthen ties between academia, industry, and local development priorities.
He also introduced the Sarawak Business Events Fund, offering tiered incentives ranging from RM7,000 to RM40,000 for groups of 25 to 149 delegates.
“Funding support has been further enhanced with additional components to assist organisers in conducting events for smaller groups,” Tan said.
Also attending the event were Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) councillors Jenny Ting Hua Hung and Kiing Teck Ho. — DayakDaily
