Fisheries output at Korea’s fishing farms last year rose slightly from a year earlier, government data showed Friday.

The country’s total fisheries output amounted to 82,807 tons in 2025, up 1.1 percent, or 896 tons, from the previous year, according to the data from the Ministry of Data and Statistics.

The figure marked the second consecutive year of increase, the data showed.

In terms of value, production grew 12.1 percent from 1.2 trillion won ($804.1 million) to 1.4 trillion won last year.

But the number of fish farming businesses and the amount of aqua feed consumed fell, in part due to high water temperatures, the ministry said.

There were a total of 1,420 fish farming businesses last year, down by 27, or 1.9 percent, on-year. The number of workers in the sector also declined by 143 people, or 2.7 percent.

Local fish farms consumed a total of 510,000 tons of aqua feed last year, down 4.6 percent from a year earlier, according to the data.
