One of the two slain terrorists has been identified Saifullah, HT has learnt, while the security forces have recovered two AK-47 rifles and other ammunitions from the site of encounter.

Earlier, the Army had said that an encounter broke out in Passerkut in the Chatroo area of the district at about 10:30 am.

The teams received input about two Pakistani terrorists linked to the banned group Jaish-e-Mohammad being present there, officials told news agency PTI.

The terrorists, who were reportedly hiding inside a mud house at the foothills, opened fire as troops moved closer, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Notably, the Chatroo forest belt saw nearly six gunfights between terrorists and security forces last month, in which a soldier and a terrorist were killed.

Pakistani terrorist killed in Kathua operation

Security forces last month shot dead a terrorist during a joint operation carried out by the Army, the Central Reserve Police Force, and Jammu and Kashmir police in Kathua district.

Police said the slain terrorist was identified as Usman and was linked to the Jaish-e-Mohammad group.

“A Pakistani Jaish terrorist has been neutralised by a small JKP team in a joint operation with the Army and CRPF in the general area of Billawar, Kathua district,” Jammu inspector general of police BS Tuti told HT earlier.

The operation began in the Billawar area after specific intelligence inputs were received, following which forces sealed off the location. Contact was made with the terrorist, and he was killed in a targeted strike.
