One member of the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) was killed in action during an ongoing encounter with terrorists in Udhampur district on Monday.
This comes after an encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in Udhampur district on Monday. As per the sources, a group of JeM terrorists believed to be trapped.
The gun-fight broke out after joint teams of the army, police and paramilitary forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in the Soan–Martha area of Majalta tehsil.
IGP Jammu shared the update of the operation on X and stated that joint team of SOG along with Army and CRPF established contact with terrorists.
“A very small SOG team engaged the terrorists! Combing of the forest has been impeded due to darkness and treacherous terrain,” the post reads.

The Indian Army’s White Knight Corps said that the operation, launched under Op Kiya, is currently underway.
“In an intelligence based operation, SOG @JmuKmrPolice and alert troops of @IndianArmy have established contact with terrorists in general area of Sohan, Udhampur District. Fire exchanged with terrorists. Operation is in progress,” they posted on X.

Earlier this month, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat reviewed the security situation in Udhampur. He chaired a joint meeting with officers of all security forces, focusing on operational preparedness, inter-agency coordination and the overall security environment in the region.
Prabhat was accompanied by senior officers of the CRPF and Army, including IGP Jammu Zone Bhim Sen Tuti, IG CRPF Gopal Rao and SSP Udhampur Amod Nagpure.
The DGP urged the forces to remain alert and ensure the safety of the local population.
