Finding out one of your former flames became famous is always going to come as a shock, even if you’re a celebrity yourself.

Keeping tabs on how your exes are doing is quite controversial, but Jennifer Coolidge was left wishing she’d paid more attention to hers after getting wind of their success.

The actress, 64, had a hilarious reaction when she discovered that one of her past partners is actually a household name in Sweden.

Rather than riding on her coattails and claiming notoriety as a notch on Coolidge’s bed post, this fella is actually a celebrity in his own right.

Although his career might not have hit the same heights as the American Pie actress, he’s also enjoyed an illustrious career on screen.

But as he and Coolidge dated decades ago, she didn’t have a clue what he was up to now – until she sat down for an interview last year.

Coolidge was chatting to a Swedish outlet, MovieZine, alongside Jason Momoa in April 2025 as part of the promotional tour for A Minecraft Movie.

She played Vice Principal Marlene in the flick, while starring alongside the likes of Jack Black, Emma Myers and Danielle Brooks.

While speaking to MovieZine, Coolidge and Momoa were asked whether either of them shared any connection to Sweden, given that it’s the birthplace of Minecraft.

Swedish programmer Markus Persson created the popular game back in 2009 and founded the Stockholm-based company, Mojang Studios, which developed it.

Although Momoa explained he unfortunately didn’t have any ties to the Scandinavian nation, Coolidge announced that she did – in the form of an ex boyfriend.

“I dated a really handsome Swedish guy in my youth,” she said, before announcing his name.

The interviewer noted that this was pretty ‘cool’ in his eyes and pointed out that her former lover is also a well-known figure in Sweden – although he noted that he is ‘not as famous’ as her.

Coolidge comically responded: “He is? Why didn’t I stick with him? He is now? I didn’t know that! Jesus. Oh my god, can you get a message to him for me?”

She then stared the camera down and told her ex fella: “I didn’t know you were going to be successful! But anyway, if you want to know where I live…after this, I’ll give you my phone number.”

So, who is this mystery man who went onto achieve a lot more than what Coolidge expected?

Well, the ex she was referring to was actually a Swedish actor named Rafael Edholm, who is best known for his roles in shows such as Veni Vidi Vici and The Spiral.

He’s also a film director, screenwriter and model – which is news that would probably send Coolidge flying off her chair. It is believed that the pair dated while Edholm, 59, was studying in New York.

He shared a response to Coolidge’s comments after hearing what she said about him and hilariously played into the bit, even though he is happily married. Take a look at this:

Edholm shared a clip to social media while on a snowy morning run and invited Coolidge to Sweden.

“Hey, Jennifer, this is your famous Swedish ex,” he said. “Where the hell are ya? Come and visit Sweden; it’s the most beautiful place in the world.

“See you soon,” he ended the clip, before cheekily blowing a kiss at the camera.

A lot of internet users seemed to hope that this could prompt the pair to reconnect after all these years, as the comment section of Edholm’s post was flooded with remarks such as ‘internet, do your magic’.

But according to reports, the actor has been married to actress and model Freja Kjellberg Borchies since 2015.
