The actor spoke to Good Housekeeping about whether he plans to write a new book, months after releasing his latest work, The Cocktail Diaries: A Spirited Adventure.
Sam has written other books over the years, like Waypoints and Clanlands: Whisky, Warfare, and a Scottish Adventure Like No Other.
Sam Heughan is thinking about what his career will look like after Outlander—but fans may have to wait a while to see what he does next.
Over the last decade, loyal fans have watched the actor portray Jamie Fraser on the hit Starz drama. And with Outlander ending in the spring of 2026 after eight seasons on the air, there’s time for Sam to work on other projects, both at work and in his personal life.
He’s already released several books over the course of his career (his latest work, The Cocktail Diaries: A Spirited Adventure, debuted in September 2025), so it only makes sense that he may want to add one more title to the list.
When Good Housekeeping asked Sam if he had plans to write more after the show wrapped, the actor seemed enthusiastic about the idea. But, as he noted at the time, that does come with an unexpected caveat.
“Oh, yeah, there are definitely plans,” he said about the possibility of writing another book in the future. “There are a few ideas, but I don’t know … books are so hard to do. They take up a lot of time and energy, but I do have some thoughts. I don’t know if I’m quite ready for it yet, but absolutely.”
Fans may remember that Sam released his first book, Clanlands: Whisky, Warfare, and a Scottish Adventure Like No Other, alongside Outlander co-star Graham McTavish back in November 2020. Since then, he’s published three more books, all while working on Outlander and other projects, including his My Peak Challenge organization and his Sassenach Spirits beverage brand.
We can’t be sure when we’ll get something new from Sam, but we do know we’re excited to read whatever he comes up with next.
