PORVORIM: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Thursday said Goa is moving from a treatment-based healthcare system to a wellness-based model, as he inaugurated the AYUSH Wellness Centre at the Secretariat in Porvorim.
The centre, inaugurated in the presence of Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, aims to promote preventive healthcare, healthy lifestyles and overall well-being by integrating traditional AYUSH systems with modern medical practices.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the initiative reflects the government’s vision of shifting focus from curing diseases to preventing them. He stressed that preventive healthcare, fitness and mental well-being will be key pillars of Goa’s healthcare model going forward, and urged citizens to take shared responsibility for their health.
The AYUSH Wellness Centre will offer yoga sessions, lifestyle guidance and consultations based on Ayurveda and Homeopathy, along with integrated modern healthcare support. The facility is designed primarily for Secretariat staff and government employees, and will also benefit visitors and personnel from other departments.
Sawant said the centre will help individuals understand their health through traditional systems such as Ayurveda while promoting practices like yoga, pranayama and natural therapies. Qualified AYUSH doctors will be available to provide specialised consultations tailored to individual needs.
He further stated that the government plans to expand AYUSH services across Primary Health Centres, Community Health Centres, district hospitals and Goa Medical College, strengthening accessibility and preventive care across the state.
With 201 Health and Wellness Centres already operational, the government said the new facility reflects its commitment to holistic healthcare by integrating Ayurveda, Homeopathy and Allopathy under one roof, while addressing lifestyle diseases such as hypertension and diabetes.
Chief Secretary Dr V Candavelou and senior officials from the Department of AYUSH and Directorate of Health Services were present on the occasion.
