Breaking Update: Here’s a clear explanation of the latest developments related to Breaking News:Google adds prompt-based avatar control to Vids with new AI features– What Just Happened and why it matters right now.
Google has introduced a range of new features to its video editing application Google Vids, including the ability to direct and customise avatars using text prompts, support for Veo 3.1, direct export to YouTube, and a screen recording tool via a Google Chrome extension.
Users can now employ natural language prompts to guide avatars to perform actions within a scene, including interacting with products, props or equipment, with the company stating, as reported by TechCrunch, that character consistency is maintained despite the dynamic nature of generated outputs.
Google further stated that users can customise avatars based on the theme of a video by modifying appearance, adjusting apparel and generating new backgrounds through prompts, enhancing creative flexibility within the tool.
The latest update also brings integration with Google’s Veo 3.1 video generation model, enabling users to create clips of up to eight seconds directly within the editing interface. The company stated that all users will receive 10 free generations per month, while subscribers to Google AI Ultra and Workspace AI Ultra plans will be able to generate up to 1,000 Veo videos monthly.
This builds on earlier updates, including the addition of Lyria 3 and Lyria 3 Pro music generation models last month, which allow users to incorporate sound effects and music into their content.
Google has also introduced the ability to export completed videos directly to YouTube, eliminating the need for manual downloads and uploads, with all exported content set to private by default to allow users to review before publishing.
Additionally, the company has rolled out a new screen recording feature through a Chrome extension, enabling users to capture their screens along with audio or video as part of the content creation workflow.
Since unveiling Vids in 2024, Google has steadily expanded its capabilities to cater to enterprise content creation, including the introduction of AI avatars and broader consumer access. In February, the company added both 2D and 3D cartoon-style avatars and expanded language support for voiceovers to include French, German, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish and Japanese.
Google Vids operates in an increasingly competitive space, facing rivals such as Synthesia, HeyGen, D-ID and Lemon Slice, as companies continue to invest in AI-led video creation tools.
