We explore the scientific background, research findings, and environmental impact of Science Insight: Bridge to Progress: Mizoram’s Connection to Bangladesh – Explained

K. Vanlalvena, Mizoram’s lone Rajya Sabha member, has called upon the central government to expedite the construction of a crucial bridge connecting Kawrpuichhuah in Lunglei district with Bangladesh. The move aims to bolster trade and connectivity, following a decade-old, yet sluggishly-progressed trade agreement.

The proposed bridge site, Kawrpuichhuah, is an integrated check post and a vital border trade point, located just 11.5 km from Tlabung. Vanlalvena highlighted the dire humanitarian conditions in this region, mentioning inaccessible BSF outposts and tragic losses due to the lack of connectivity.

While expressing gratitude for a parallel project over the Khawthlang Tuipui river near the Bangladesh border, Vanlalvena thanked Union Home Minister Amit Shah for prioritizing these infrastructure developments, which are crucial for military logistics and regional welfare.
