Last week, Taylor Swift attended the iHeartRadio Music Awards, where she took home Artist of the Year and several other trophies — but instead of focusing on her accomplishments, much of the online conversation quickly shifted to a viral video of her and her fiancé, Travis Kelce.

In the full moment, host Ludacris was kicking off the show, shouting out guests in the front row as the camera followed along. When he reached Taylor, highlighting her as the “most awarded iHeartRadio Music artist,” Taylor visibly blushed, folding her arms in and swaying side to side in a shy, almost bashful way. Standing beside her, Travis placed a hand on her back as the audience cheered.

But when the clip was shared on X, it was without that context and focused only on Taylor and Travis’s immediate reactions. It quickly garnered almost 4 million views and tons of commentary, with some viewers describing it as “awkward” and questioning the couple’s chemistry.

One person said they have “no chemistry at all,” while others compared their connection to distant cousins instead of romantic partners.

“It’s so uncomfy and awkward,” one person said, while another wrote that the two looked forced.

In response to the growing discourse, BuzzFeed contacted Traci Brown, a body language expert and behavior analyst, for her perspective. Traci confirms, “This isn’t one of their romantic moments.” But “Not every moment can be!”

“Here she’s showing a little bashfulness or shyness with her shoulder drop and hands clasped in front of her. She scrunches up her face a bit, which says she may not be 100% comfortable with whatever announcement was made.”

But Travis, Traci says, does a great job of reassuring Taylor in that moment. “He draws her close putting his hand around her waist. There’s nothing wrong here that would indicate trouble in paradise. So let’s not overanalyze.”

Traci also looked at other images of the couple from the event, including the ones below, noting that their overall body language tells a different story than the clip alone. “All of their pictures show them glued together, leaning in towards one another. So they’re looking great!”
