Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president and actor C. Joseph Vijay on Sunday (March 29, 2026) announced candidates for all 234 constituencies in Tamil Nadu and 30 seats in Puducherry for next month’s Assembly elections. Mr. Vijay is set to make his electoral debut from two constituencies – Perambur in Chennai and Tiruchi East.

The DMK has fielded incumbent MLA R.D. Shekar from Perambur, while in the AIADMK front, the constituency has been allocated to the PMK, led by Anbumani. In Tiruchi East, the DMK has fielded incumbent MLA Inigo Irudayaraj, while the AIADMK has fielded K. Rajasekaran.

TVK general secretary ‘Bussy’ N. Anand, is contesting from T. Nagar in Chennai, where DMK’s Raja Anbazhagan and AIADMK’s B. Sathyanarayanan are in the fray. K.A. Sengottaiyan, a nine-time former AIADMK MLA who joined TVK a few months ago, will test the waters from his home turf, Gobichettipalayam. His supporter, former Tiruppur MP V. Sathyabama, is contesting from Tiruppur North. Former AIADMK Agriculture Minister Ku.Pa. Krishnan is contesting from Lalgudi.

Another interesting contest will unfold in Villivakkam, where TVK has fielded its general secretary (election campaign management), Aadhav Arjuna. Incumbent DMK MLA from Anna Nagar M.K. Mohan’s son Karthik Mohan, and AIADMK’s former Chennai Central MP S.R. Vijayakumar are contesting from Villivakkam.

TVK general secretary (policy and propaganda) K.G. Arunraaj is contesting from Tiruchengode, while joint general secretary C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar is contesting from Thirupparankundram; party treasurer P. Venkataramanan from Mylapore; and former AIADMK MLA J.C.D. Prabhakar from Thousand Lights.

Former MLA V.S. Babu is contesting from Kolathur, where DMK president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is seeking election for the fourth time. D. Selvam, who was the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee general secretary and joined TVK two days ago, will take on DMK youth wing secretary and Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin in Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni.

Deputy general secretaries of the party, M. Arul Prakasam and A. Rajmohan, are contesting from Saidapet and Egmore (Reserved), respectively. N. Marie Wilson, who is associated with a leading self-financing educational institution in Chennai, is contesting from R.K. Nagar. The party has announced a total of 23 women candidates.

Meanwhile, a section of TVK workers from the K.V. Kuppam Assembly segment protested against the party’s decision on the announced candidate. They demanded that the seat be allocated to Prabhu, a party worker. They also blocked the arterial Uthamar Gandhi Salai in Nungambakkam, where Mr. Vijay announced his party’s candidates. The police removed them from the spot.

R. Sabarinathan, who is contesting from the Virugambakkam Assembly segment, broke down on stage in tears of joy when Mr. Vijay announced his candidature. Mr. Vijay also comforted him. The candidate is the son of Rajendran, who is said to have been working with Mr. Vijay for more than two decades.
