Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday called for national unity in the face of growing global uncertainty triggered by the ongoing conflict in West Asia, describing the situation as “challenging” and urging restraint in public discourse.
Speaking during his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, Modi cautioned against politicising the crisis, stressing that issues affecting national interest should rise above partisan considerations.
He also warned citizens against misinformation, advising them to rely only on official updates.
The Prime Minister highlighted that the conflict, which began in late February, has had far-reaching implications, particularly for India’s energy security.
West Asia remains a key supplier of oil and gas, and disruptions in the region have contributed to global concerns over fuel availability and prices.

He also pointed to the presence of a large Indian diaspora in Gulf nations, expressing gratitude to countries such as Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar and others for supporting Indian nationals during the ongoing tensions.
Reflecting on the broader global climate, Modi noted that hopes of stability following the COVID-19 pandemic have been overshadowed by recurring conflicts in different regions.
He expressed confidence, however, that India’s strengthened global partnerships and internal resilience would help the country navigate the current challenges.
The conflict in West Asia has escalated tensions across the region, with disruptions in key maritime routes such as the Strait of Hormuz raising concerns over global energy supply chains.
Modi has been actively engaging with world leaders, including Donald Trump and counterparts from several nations, to exchange views and assess the evolving situation.
Reiterating his appeal, the Prime Minister said that collective resolve and unity would be crucial in overcoming the uncertainties posed by the crisis.
