As a mother of four, Lisa remembers walking into aesthetic clinics and feeling out of place. “I was in a season in life where I was looking for those for those treatments myself. Instead of feeling supported, I ended up feeling worse about myself.”

Lisa believes that the highest quality health and beauty treatments are best delivered in an atmosphere where clients feel at home.

The consultation begins with understanding each client’s goals and what matters to them. They review health history, medications, and past treatments, and how clients’ felt about those treatments. Lisa points out, “There is a very personalized assessment to understand a person’s life. We personalize a treatment plan that makes sense for the client.”

Many clients come in asking about smoothing wrinkles or softening jowls, but after a conversation, the issues often go deeper. Individuals may be dealing with a divorce, loss of a loved one, or children leaving home. Lisa recounts, “I had a conversation with a client who was an appropriate candidate, but suggested that if they were expecting fillers to cure their life struggles, they would be disappointed.”

Clients are often looking to feel like themselves again. Lisa says, “Instead of doing a procedure where I take care of your wrinkles, there’s also the piece of doing the work on the inside. Aesthetic treatments give people confidence but sometimes they’re trying to fix something deeper than that.”

If you are 50 and want to look 40, you won’t look natural. You should look 50, your skin should be healthy, and you will look glowing and confident.”

Breaking Free from Social Media Ideals

Lisa often finds herself pushing back against social media trends, where filtered perfection and celebrity ideals create pressure to look like someone else. Lisa says, “I turned one person away who wanted to look like a Kardashian and said that isn’t what we accomplish in this clinic. That’s not what we do. If that’s the goal, I can refer to someone else.”

There are clients who want to enhance their natural beauty and then there are others who are chasing an ideal shaped by the outside world or Instagram filters because they feel like they want to belong. Lisa says, “There is a lot of education in our initial consultation. If a client comes in with an Instagram screenshot and says, I want these lips, we have a very realistic discussion about we can achieve and what we can’t.”

In world where overdone or unnatural results are common, Lisa’s integrity stands firm. “If something doesn’t feel right or natural for the client, I will not proceed. I’m not trying to make everyone look like a Kardashian, I’m trying to make you look like the best version of you.”

Lisa Turned Adversity into a Dream

Lisa’s journey from nurse to Founder of IMpower Wellness began years earlier. She says, “I found I truly loved nursing, caring for people, the science, research, evidence, I was on a constant quest for knowledge and doing the next best thing.”

After receiving her Nurse Practitioner accreditation, she took the next step to healthcare administration during the height of the pandemic. But after 17 years in healthcare, she was frustrated by being forced to ask her colleagues to push themselves even harder. Lisa says, “We were burnt out before COVID, and now this extra pressure was added. The thing that broke me was that one of my friends took her own life. It made me pull back and re-evaluate what I was doing here because I felt wasn’t helping people anymore.”

Lisa was going through a divorce and could no longer work 18 hours on call. These challenges propelled her to launch her own business. It started as a side hustle, doing some injectables on nights and weekends. She adds, “I ended up renting the back of a shop and doing it full-time. I quit a six- figure job with pension and benefits and took a leap in starting my own business. In October, we opened up at 4,700 square foot, 9 treatment room clinic with eight employees. Seeing tremendous growth in the past two years, I’m living my 10-year entrepreneurial plan.”

Shaping the Future of the Wellness Industry

For Lisa Roszel, wellness includes nutrition, sleep, stress mitigation, and having a more balanced life. She says, “We are expanding our holistic portfolio to include shiatsu, acupressure, meditation, sound baths, and fitness classes. We are collaborating with partners to elevate our service offerings.”

Lisa is driven by a passion to reshape the industry to be more grounded in science, evidence, and a standard of ethics. She believes treatments should be guided by research and delivered with integrity. She adds, “I think it’s important to focus on our ethical and professional obligations first and profitability second.”

Lisa is already making a powerful impact in a fast-growing industry. This Spring, she’s launching her own skincare line of high-quality, medical-grade Canadian products. She’s keeping business in Canada, reducing costs, and delivering what customers are requesting.
