Hyderabad: Countering the BJP’s criticism of the Congress govt’s 2026-27 budget for Telangana, ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and A Laxman said the saffron party should stop projecting itself as better Hindus than the rest. They also asked BJP MLAs to ensure more central funds for the state. They asserted that it was essential for the BJP leadership to recognise that devotion to Lord Rama and identity as Hindus extended beyond the confines of party lines.Ponnam even recited a stanza from the Hanuman Kavacham praising Lord Rama, and challenged BJP members to do the same. He stated that Telangana was neither Pakistan nor Bangladesh and objected to, what he called, discrimination in fund allocation to the state.“We are ready to discuss what the BJP has given Telangana in 12 years. Have you ever approached the prime minister over what Telangana needs? Even central schools and Navodaya educational institutions promised by the Centre have not come to our state,” Ponnam said.“While the Andhra Pradesh govt is attracting funds, why haven’t you stepped up to demand what we rightfully deserve? It’s time for BJP leaders to bring funds to Telangana before they speak up,” he remarked.Affirming his status as a staunch Hindu capable of reciting slokas for two hours straight, Laxman said, “BJP politicians need to realise that the RSS has a controversial history.”Legislative affairs minister Sridhar Babu remarked that BJP floor leader Maheshwar Reddy’s comments that Congress introduced a cheat budget were objectionable.
