An earthquake registering 4.1 on the Richter scale hit Nepal’s Sudurpaschim province on Monday afternoon. While there were no immediate reports of casualties or property damage, the tremor was keenly felt by residents across the province.
The Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre recorded the quake at 1:14 PM, pinpointing the epicenter near the Rayal area of Bajhang. Neighboring districts, including Bajura and Baitadi, also experienced tremors. A previous earthquake, clocking in at magnitude 4, struck the province on March 17, impacting the Darchula district.
Nepal remains highly susceptible to seismic events due to its position in a volatile tectonic zone. The country, part of the Himalayas, ranks 11th among the world’s most earthquake-prone nations—highlighting the urgent need for effective disaster preparedness.
