Health Update: Health Update: “Black Family Wellness Expo” brings health resources and community support together | Community – What Experts Say– What Experts Say.
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) – Tri-County (IL) Chapter of The Links Incorporated hosted its annual Black Family Wellness Expo in Springfield Saturday.
The event is free and families had access to health education, screenings and community resources.
Ward 5 Alderwoman and The Links Incorporated member Lakeisha Purchase said that the event was all about improving health equity. “We have a very diverse group of physicians here and different resources. But guess what? It’s a lot of them that look like me. And we have that trust factor in our community when we see someone who’s in this magnet. So to be able to look like me and understand me.” she said.
There were free health screenings, wellness education and preventive care resources, and mental and behavioral health resources.
The Links hope to hold another Black Wellness Expo next year.
