Market Update: We break down the business implications, market impact, and expert insights related to Market Update: Lincoln shifts visitor economy model towards business-led delivery – Full Analysis.
City of Lincoln Council is restructuring the delivery of its visitor economy under the Visit Lincoln brand, with a clearer commercial focus and greater control for local businesses.
A new partnership model is being developed with the Lincoln Business Improvement Group, the Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce, and the Lincoln Independent. The structure is designed to improve coordination across the sector, drive joint promotion, and unlock packaged commercial opportunities across hospitality, events, and conferencing.
From 18 March 2026, visitor economy businesses can secure a free listing on the Visit Lincoln platform. The system allows businesses to manage their own profiles, promote events, and plug into centralised campaigns, reducing reliance on fragmented marketing channels.
Onboarding sessions at Cornhill Market and Lincoln Cathedral later in March are expected to accelerate uptake and establish a critical mass of participating businesses.
The platform will serve as a single digital gateway for the city’s visitor offerings, supporting cross-selling, itinerary building, and bundled experiences to increase visitor spend and dwell time.
Cllr Joshua Wells, Portfolio Holder for Inclusive Economic Growth at City of Lincoln Council, said, “Lincoln has an incredible visitor offer, from our heritage and culture to our independent businesses, hospitality and events. Visit Lincoln gives us a platform to bring all of that together and promote the city in a much stronger and more coordinated way. We want local businesses to be at the heart of this. By working together, we can showcase everything Lincoln has to offer, attract more visitors and ensure the benefits are felt across the whole city.”
The programme forms part of the Lincoln Connected project under the Lincoln Town Deal, which has now been extended to March 2028. The extended timeline enables full rollout of the platform and partnership model.
A city-wide industry event in June 2026 will bring stakeholders together to define priorities and align on delivery. City of Lincoln Council will retain oversight as the accountable body while shifting execution towards a more integrated, business-driven ecosystem.
