The View star Whoopi Goldberg announced a new career venture on March 10.
Whoopi shared she will be the subject of a new documentary, telling the story of her life.
Whoopi spoke out about why now was the perfect time for her to work on this project.
It’s official: Whoopi Goldberg is getting the movie treatment.
Ever since Whoopi first made it big in the 1980s, she has had a highly illustrious career. Between acting, producing TV shows, writing books, and more, it seems like she has touched every facet of the entertainment industry.
But there’s one thing Whoopi hasn’t done yet, and that is being the subject of a documentary. That’s about to change, according to a March 10 taping of The View.
Alongside Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, Joy Behar, and Sheryl Underwood, Whoopi revealed that the documentary will be produced by her friend, director Gheeta Gandbhir, along with Imagine Documentaries, Message Pictures, and One Hoe Productions. She also explained why she thought now was the perfect time to tell the story of her life.
“So, for many years, people have been asking me to do a documentary about me,” she stated in a clip posted on YouTube. “I have been me for a very long time, so, if you want to know who I went out with, when, what color he was … it’s all there. So, there’s not a lot that I think is going to be interesting. But I think of myself very differently than other people do. So, it’s an opportunity to learn more about me.”
“The biggest misconception is that I am one thing,” she added. “I am many things. I think many different ways, and sometimes I’m right, and sometimes I’m wrong … I’ve been an open book for this very reason.”
As soon as fans learned of Whoopi’s exciting new venture, they bombarded her with words of support.
“I can’t wait! Whoopi has been my inspiration for a long time ,” one person wrote in the comments. “I love Whoopi! She has been my role model since before I could talk. I’m hella excited,” another penned. “An icon she deserves it,” a different follower added.
Now, this is definitely an exciting new career move for Whoopi! And as Gheeta shared in an official statement to Variety, she’s excited to share the actress’ story in a whole new light.
“Whoopi Goldberg is a brilliant and groundbreaking storyteller who has shaped the landscape of entertainment for years,” she told the outlet. “I, along with my partners Sam Pollard and Alisa Payne at Message Pictures, Whoopi’s long-time producing partner Tom Leonardis, President of Whoop, Inc, and Imagine Documentaries are honored to bring her story to life in this documentary.”
