VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A law enforcement chase in Florida took to the water on Monday when a suspect leaped into a river, resulting in a paddleboard pursuit.
According to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, 28-year-old Chase Cruz was initially questioned by deputies in the Daytona Beach area when he suddenly fled the scene.
Despite his attempt to escape into the Halifax River, officials said that law enforcement officers pursued him into the river.

According to the report, a deputy from the sheriff’s office and an officer from Daytona Beach Shores Police followed Cruz on paddleboards, navigating the waters to bring him back to shore.
After being brought back to land, Cruz was accused of loitering, prowling, and resisting arrest.
