Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed today said Bangladesh is strengthening AI-driven crime detection and enforcement as part of its zero-tolerance policy against terrorism, drugs, human trafficking, corruption and financial fraud.

Speaking at a high-level session titled National Commitments/Pledges on Combating Fraud at the Global Fraud Summit 2026 in Vienna, he reiterated the government’s firm stance on national security and crime control, according to a home ministry press release.

The home minister joined the session as a panelist at the Vienna International Centre this afternoon (local time).

In his remarks, Salahuddin outlined Bangladesh’s specific steps to prevent money laundering and financial fraud.

He identified the banking sector, non-bank financial institutions, real estate and jewellery as high-risk sectors for money laundering and pledged stronger monitoring in those areas.

He said stricter oversight measures are being put in place in those sectors to ensure transparency and accountability.

Referring to Bangladesh’s legal framework against financial crime, the minister said the government is committed to bringing offenders to justice through the effective enforcement of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012 and the Mutual Legal Assistance Act, 2012.

He also stressed the need for global legal cooperation against transnational criminal networks.

Salahuddin said Bangladesh is giving special importance to enhancing the capacity of law enforcers to tackle technology-based crimes.

He said the country is focussing on AI-driven crime detection and suppression to deal with emerging threats.

“In the new Bangladesh, there is no place for criminals,” he said.

He added that Bangladesh remains committed not only to combatting crime at home, but also to upholding its global obligations by following international conventions and protocols.

Representatives from different countries attending the session praised Bangladesh’s targeted measures and its technology-based approach to tackling crime, the press release said.
