Barren County Schools will be hosting a wellness night from 4 to 7 p.m. this Tuesday, March 17, at Barren County Middle School. This free event will feature topics such as fitness, social and emotional wellness, mental health and nutrition.

“We’ve been doing wellness events for several years, but I’m most excited about the collaboration that we have with the community,” said CheyAnne Fant, director of nutrition services and after-school programs for the school district. “We’ve had so many people who wanted to come and teach classes for us and also set up booths, and we’ve had some great community partners.”

Some of the activities will include: yoga, cardio drumming, cross-fit, social and emotional art projects and a Silver Sneakers exercise session. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn about nutrition, vaping and substance abuse, and available health services.

Fant said she is most excited about an interactive food demonstration that will help families prepare meals on a budget.

“We’ll build a meal. Build a bowl with a protein and grains, fruits, vegetables and some sauces,” she said. “So hopefully everybody will go home healthy and happy and not hungry.”
