Speaking at the Samvidhan Sammelan held in Lucknow, Gandhi also reiterated that the Congress would fight to conduct a caste census, and get Dalits, Adivasis, backward and extremely backward classes and minorities “a place in the power structure of India”.

The Samvidhan Sammelan was held in Lucknow ahead of the birth anniversary of Kanshi Ram on March 15.
Targeting the prime minister, Gandhi said, “We have got him cornered. You may not realise it, but we have him cornered… I am declaring from this very stage: Psychologically, Narendra Modi is finished.”
“In politics, people are defeated right here — within the mind. Then it (actual defeat) is inevitable,” said Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha.
Gandhi said Congress workers, Dalits, Adivasis and backward classes created the necessary pressure to bring about “Narendra Modi’s downfall”.Addressing the gathering, he said, “See, it is about energy security, it is about people not getting gas cylinders. Our energy security has been compromised.”
Gandhi claimed that now the US tells us who to buy oil and gas from. “Why did this happen?”
“On one side, there is Epstein; on the other, there is Adani ji,” he said.
The Congress leader then asserted that his party will ensure the caste census is conducted in the country.
“This is a party driven by ideology. And the BJP cannot defeat it… If it stays true to its path, if it follows the path laid down by Gandhiji, by Ambedkar ji, Jyotibha Phule, no one can defeat it. If there is any shortcoming, it lies within us, and that is the very first thing we must understand,” Gandhi said.
“Now, we have made up our minds. The Congress has firmly resolved that a caste census will be conducted. Dalits, backward classes, Adivasis, extremely backward classes, and minorities will get their place in the power structure of India,” he added.
“Now it has become easy. Now their man is compromised. You may not have realised but we have cornered him,” Gandhi said, adding that Prime Minister Modi is “psychologically finished”.
He said, “Adani is not a normal company. BJP’s entire financial structure is with the Adani company. The Americans understood this and latched on to it.”
“This is why there is a case in the US. The case is not against Adani ji; that case is directly against Modi ji. The case serves as a message to Modi ji that if you don’t listen to us, we will expose your financial system and reveal it to India.

“So now, Narendra Modi is no longer the PM of India. He is now working on behalf of America,” the Congress leader added.
Gandhi claimed that the India-US trade deal was stuck for at least four months because the government did not want to “compromise” on the agriculture sector.
“What was stuck for four months, the compromise you did not want to do four months, why did you do it in 15 minutes. Epstein and Adani,” he said.
Bringing up the conflict in West Asia and the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, Gandhi said Modi has “handed over” India’s energy security to America.
“He has told America, you tell us where we should buy oil from? Where should we buy gas from? If you want us not to buy from Russia, we won’t. If you want us not to buy from Iran, we won’t. If you want us not to buy from Iraq. We won’t. You just say the word.
“These are the concessions Narendra Modi has made (in the US trade deal). And what did he get in return? Nothing,” Gandhi said.
“Why was everything handed over to America. Because Narendra Modi — due to Epstein, due to Adani, due to its financial structure — is compromised,” he said. “Narendra has surrendered”
Gandhi added that there was a tremendous opportunity to transform India.
“This is not merely about winning elections, but about a politics dedicated to integrating India’s poor, the Dalits, Adivasis, backward classes, minorities, and the poor among the general castes into the country’s power structure,” he said.
