Tech Explained: Here’s a simplified explanation of the latest technology update around Tech Explained: Nick Clegg joins Efekta advisory board for AI education in Simple Termsand what it means for users..
Efekta Education Group has appointed Nick Clegg to its advisory board, as the company expands its AI-powered learning platform across school systems and government partnerships globally.
Clegg, who previously served as UK Deputy Prime Minister and later as Meta’s President of Global Affairs, will advise the company on education policy, technology governance, and international partnerships as Efekta scales its AI learning programs.
Efekta develops AI-powered learning tools designed to support teaching and personalized learning, including AI curriculum systems, AI classroom tools for teachers, and AI teaching assistants for students.
The appointment comes as education systems in several regions are addressing teacher shortages and widening disparities in access to education, areas where AI-powered learning platforms are increasingly being positioned as part of the solution.
Advisory board role focuses on AI and education policy
Efekta says its advisory board provides guidance on long-term growth, public sector engagement, and the responsible deployment of artificial intelligence in education.
The board is chaired by José Manuel Barroso, former President of the European Commission and Prime Minister of Portugal.
Clegg comments: “Education sits at the heart of economic opportunity and social mobility, and technology will play an increasingly important role in how we support teachers and learners at scale.”
He adds: “Efekta’s focus on solving teacher shortages in regions like Southeast Asia and Latin America by using AI to strengthen teaching, rather than sideline it, is exactly the kind of approach education systems need.”
Clegg continues: “I am excited to support the team as they work with governments and institutions around the world to turn innovation into real educational impact.”
Efekta expands AI learning deployments across regions
Efekta says the appointment comes during a period of international expansion, with the company reporting new or expanded partnerships with governments and organizations across Southeast Asia, Africa, Central Asia, and Latin America.
The company recently launched what it describes as the world’s largest AI learning pilot, involving more than four million students and teachers across the region.
Earlier pilots in the Brazilian state of Paraná involved 750,000 students using the platform. According to Efekta, students using the system recorded a 32.5 percent improvement in the state’s standardized English test results after two years.
The company says the rollout has also seen high engagement levels from teachers and students using the platform in classrooms.
Efekta says its advisory board members will support the company as it continues expanding its platform across education systems and corporate learning environments.
Stephen Hodges, CEO of Efekta, says: “We are delighted to welcome Sir Nick Clegg to Efekta’s Advisory Board. His vast experience across both education and technology policy brings invaluable perspective at a pivotal moment for our company and for global education more broadly.”
He adds: “As we continue to scale internationally, Sir Nick’s insight and leadership will help us ensure our technology delivers real learning outcomes for teachers and students around the world.”
