Today, Muskingum University hosted its Older Adult Health and Wellness Fair, an event designed to help seniors in the community learn more about maintaining their health and independence.

The event took place inside Caldwell Hall, where a variety of vendors gathered to provide resources and assistance to community members. Attendees were able to visit tables offering information, helpful items, and guidance on different health topics and activities.

Many of the vendors focused on sharing knowledge and resources that can help older adults stay active and engaged in their daily lives.

Heather Coalt, Academic Fieldwork Coordinator at Muskingum University, says the goal of the event is to help older adults maintain independence and quality of life.

“Well, I think first of all, I mean, just everybody wants to be able to stay in their own home, in their home communities, and to be able to do those everyday activities and engage in leisure and things that bring joy to them for as long as possible. So this event is important because our students are providing information for brain health, overall wellness, physical activity, safety to decrease falls at home,” Coalt said.

While health and wellness are important for everyone, the event specifically focused on the needs of older adults.

Organizers say that seniors sometimes miss out on important health resources or information, which makes events like this especially valuable for the community.

“Everybody is concerned about their health and wellness. I think, for sometimes the older adult population, I think they kind of get missed. So I think that, this is just a really good way to get that information out, out to them, to a population that doesn’t, you know, readily have all this information available,” said Coalt.
