Coleen and Wayne Rooney’s marriage is under speculation once more after the ex-footballer was seen drinking with unknown women at a party

Coleen and Wayne Rooney’s pals have revealed the state of the couple’s marriage after the former footballer was snapped drinking at a party with two mystery women. The 39-year-old was also seen without her wedding ring on her finger after it emerged that Wayne, 40, had drinks with two women at a pre-Brit Awards get together in Manchester.

Insiders close to the couple, who tied the knot in 2008, has since hailed the former footballer “an idiot” but other friends have now insisted that their relationship is still strong. One source noted that Wayne and the unnamed women at the party went home alone. The pal continued: “Coleen is aware of the situation and is extremely protective of Wayne.

“She knows he has a drinking problem but is disappointed in the people who take advantage of him when he drinks… Her view has long been that women circle him – and that’s how these situations arise.” Wayne has been open about his struggles with alcohol in the past. The Manchester United legend said in September last year that he could have died if Coleen hadn’t been there to help him find the light, the Mirror reports.

Speaking on close friend and former teammate Rio Ferdinand’s podcast, Wayne admitted: “I honestly believe if she weren’t there, I’d be dead.” Talking to Rio, Wayne continued: “Coleen is the best.

“I’ve made mistakes in the past which are well-documented but… she keeps me on [the right] path and she’s done it for 20-odd years.” This has been reflected by the friends today following the new snaps.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, the insiders have stressed Wayne, who scored over 50 goals for England, “did nothing wrong” at the party. They added that I’m A Celeb star Coleen has supported her husband throughout his alcoholism journey.

This is evident in Coleen’s reply whenever she is asked publicly about her relationship with Wayne.

Her usual defiant reply is: “We’ve had our ups and we’ve had our downs but we’ve had experiences that you would never have imagined.”

Just two days after the snaps of Wayne emerged last week, Coleen was spotted out and about in Cheshire without her wedding ring.

However, friends insist she never wears her ring to Pilates or gym sessions and there was nothing out of the ordinary about her having left it at home.

She sobbed happy tears of joy during a surprise jungle reunion with her sons as she said: “I’ve missed you so much.”

Coleen wasted no time at all in giving her mum and two boys a tour of the camp, including her bed and the dunny as well as the Bush Telegraph, with her youngest son playfully trying on her jungle hat.

McFly star Danny Jones took home the King of the Jungle title that year, and was embroiled in another Brits scandal just months later.

The 39-year-old singer was seen locking lips with fellow campmate Maura Higgins, 35, at a Brits after party.

He later issued a public apology to his wife and family over the scandal.
