PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday slammed the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for its silence over the US-Israel strikes on Iran, saying the grouping has betrayed the Muslim world.

“It is deeply disturbing that the OIC stands as a mute spectator while America and Israel commit blatant aggression against the sovereignty of Iran. Its silence on the martyrdom of Iran’s supreme leader and its attempt to shift blame onto Iran is not only alarming, but disgraceful,” she said in a post on X. The former chief minister said instead of condemning the attacks on Iran, the OIC shifted blame on Tehran.

“Instead of condemning this brazen attack on Iran, it has chosen silence, covertly endorsing the actions of the Epstein gang. This represents a grave betrayal of the collective conscience and interests of the Muslim Ummah,” she added.

Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in joint air strikes by the US and Israel early on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the PDP president has expressed serious concern about what she described as worrying reports of women protesters having been detained in different parts of Kashmir Valley. Flagging this on her X account, Mehbooba urged DGP J&K Police to issue immediate orders for their release. “This is the time of mourning for us and the situation must be handled with compassion and sensitivity,” she added.

Earlier, she condemned America and Israel for attacking Iran and killing Khamenei, along with several other top leaders. She described the killing of Khamenei as a ‘deeply tragic and shameful point in history’.

She also criticised Muslim nations for their ‘explicit and implicit support’, accusing them of choosing convenience over conscience. According to her, “History will stand testament to who fought for justice and who helped the oppressors.”

Mufti expressed solidarity with the people of Iran and prayed for their strength against what she termed ‘forces of tyranny and injustice’. She also voiced support for the strike call given in the Kashmir Valley.
