Microsoft brought 6,000 attendees to London’s Excel for its AI Tour, where CEO Satya Nadella delivered a keynote focused on building what was described as the UK’s “AI frontier.” Leadership updates and education participation were highlighted in LinkedIn posts following the event.
Darren Hardman, CEO of Microsoft UK & Ireland, wrote that it was “an amazing day” at the Microsoft AI Tour London, noting that “6,000 attendees packed the ExCel centre to hear our Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella deliver his keynote about building the UK’s AI frontier.”
Hardman added that Nadella featured UK case studies “from our NHS Dragon Copilot trial in Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, to Welsh Councils using Microsoft AI to offer better services to residents.”
He also stated that Nadella “announced important new capabilities across Microsoft Sovereign Cloud to give customers greater local control over their workloads and AI models.”
Enterprise adoption and public sector presence
In his keynote, Hardman wrote that he highlighted UK firms including HSBC, Arup, Balfour Beatty plc, Mott MacDonald, LSEG, Barclays, and Nationwide Building Society, describing them as embedding AI into their operations and “bending the curve on innovation.”
The event also included senior political figures. Hardman wrote that it was “fantastic to introduce Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy, as he laid out his vision for an AI-enabled justice system that is fairer for all and more efficient.” He added that he met former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak “to discuss all things AI in front of more than 130 UK CEOs.”
Beyond the keynote, Hardman described “an action-packed day, with tech demos, workshops, hackathons and roundtables,” writing that “the optimism and buzz were infectious” and that he hoped attendees “left with the ambition and knowledge to make AI really work for them.”
Harris Federation brings student AI council
Jonathan O’Donnell, Senior Computer Science Consultant and AI Lead at Harris Federation, wrote that he brought 13 members of the Harris Federation AI Student Council from eight academies to the event, describing it as “an incredible day of learning, inspiration and ambition for what’s possible.”
He said students had “front row seats to hear Satya Nadella and Darren Hardman speak about the impact AI is already having across education, public services, medicine, construction, the Premier League, F1 and more.”
O’Donnell wrote that a message that resonated with students was the importance of intelligence and trust, highlighting the phrase “Put the I back into AI.” He also referenced discussion around AI agents, quoting: “When you work with agents, you work with an infinite set of minds… macro delegation with micro steering.”
He added that both Nadella and Hardman spoke about “the time saved and performance improvements AI is already delivering for organisations,” noting that Harris Federation is embedding AI under its STRIPE AI Principles: Safety, Transparency, Responsible, Inclusive, Pedagogy and Enhances output.
O’Donnell further wrote that students were “especially inspired by the innovation in healthcare, including the work of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust with Dragon Copilot supporting clinicians.” He said students also met Rishi Sunak, who “asked them thoughtful questions about how we are using AI and how they would like it to be used.”
From showcase to structured adoption
The AI Tour combined keynote announcements with demonstrations and sector roundtables, positioning sovereign cloud controls and AI agents as central to Microsoft’s UK narrative.
For education leaders in attendance, the emphasis on trust, data security, and structured governance frameworks signaled a shift from experimentation toward scaled deployment. Large-scale events generate visibility and momentum; the next phase will depend on how institutions translate that messaging into everyday operational practice.
